Surviving Mercury Retrograde: A Self-Care Series

Mercury Retrograde is Here

Self Care Tips for Surviving Mercury Retrograde is in Full-Effect

"I'm sorry for what I said when Mercury was in retrograde..." — well, that's what we used to say before we had a good self-care routine. Self Care Tips for Surviving Mercury Retrograde is a wellness series designed to help you navigate the retrograde vibes with grace, patience, and self-care. While Mercury Retrograde is known for wreaking havoc on all things communication — (now you know why that text mysteriously didn't send). That big ball of energy in the sky slows down a few times a year giving us earth-dwellers time to renew and reset. This week is all about TLC for the soul through self-care with a focus on HYDRATION.

Below are some great ways you can show yourself some love this week while looking and feeling refreshed.

Draw a Bath and Indulge

Notice your skin changing from glowy and poppin' to dry and scaled? When the weather turns cold and the heat turns up in our home, our skin begins to lose much-needed moisture. This week, indulge in a dedicated skincare routine and create a spa-like atmosphere in your bathroom. Draw a bath; add some Epsom salts which are loaded with magnesium to calm and relax weary muscles. Add 10 drops of your favorite essential oils, lavender and mandarin are a popular combination for relaxation. Light a few fragrance-and/or-phthalate-free candles to really set the mood. Exfoliate with SOL Glow, made with organic raw honey and oatmeal, to sooth the skin and shed those lingering bad vibes away.  Lather with one of our creamy coconut milk soap bars and seal it all in with our most popular Quench Skin Frosting. Trust me when I say, you’ll smell like a snack and feel like a new person.

Re-Fuel with a Hot Drink

Baths can be relaxing but can also leave us in need of extra hydration. Keep a tall glass of filtered water nearby to sip on while soaking. After bath-time, prepare a comforting cup of delicious (healthy) hot cocoa. With winter upon us, our bodies often need just as much hydration as it did in the summer months. Yet, we often drink fewer amounts of water and eat less water-rich foods. Enjoy a warm carob hot chocolate drink that will warm you from the inside out. Throw in a few dashes of turmeric and cinnamon spice to assist with inflammation and digestion.

Hemp Mylk Carob Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

1 cup hemp milk (or another dairy-free alternative)

2 tbsp carob powder (may sub with organic cacao powder)

2-3 tbsp agave syrup (may sub with raw honey or maple syrup)

Bring hemp milk to steam in a small saucepan. Whisk in agave syrup and slowly add the carob powder while whisking until smooth. Alternatively, you can add the carob hot chocolate to a blender to mix. Pour into a mug and enjoy.

Food Fact: Carob & cacao powders naturally contain iron which will support your blood during the colder months.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! Thank you for the hot chocolate recipe. I’ve starting doing a bit of research on plant based/vegan eating and am trying my very best to switch over little by little along with my fiance. I have to find a way to make my bathtub look a little more inviting :)
